SHED TEAR- for a SOLDIER. repost

It is said that as a NATION at WAR, MEMORIAL DAY has become even more poignant. As new tears, are shed for those who have been lost.

For those of you who knew them I can not propose to tell you how to memorialize them. Other than as a man maybe no more than flesh and blood, Then surely- That which makes flesh and blood a soldier, is no more than a man- and tears.

Without tears a soldier has never been called to fight or die. Without tears a soldier has never lived. Only through the shedding of tears will a soldier live on.

For those of you who now are soldiers- You, must shed tear. Not only for those who have fallen around you, but for those who fell before you, and all those yet to fall. You can not be shamed for shedding tears for those you fell.

The rest of you who maybe, because you did not know him/her personally, find it hard to shed tear for them. It’s simple really, as you look at their name. Remember that they were born of a mother and father just like everyone else. That someone took pride in their first steps and words. As they were children once that they laughed and played. Did they have a favorite toy? Maybe a dog? Remember how they fell off their bike, or tripped and scrapped their knee? How they would wake when the story stopped. They just couldn’t seem to wait to get their first car, and sometimes even their first ticket. You see, you did Know them.

THIS IS NOT a day to DEBATE the MERITS for this WAR !!!

But a day to mourn those who gave their all in this and ALL WARS! To SHED TEAR- for a SOLDIER.

For those, whose time I Share. Welcome Home Brothers .

  1. Memorial Day Sonnet

If Liberty means anything to me,
I will remember what my freedom cost,
By those who gave their all to keep me free,
Whose lives were sacrificed, but never lost.
I will remind myself of what they did,
    And keep them dearly cherished in my heart;
Their honor never from me shall be hid
And I will know they always did their part
To save our nation and its people here,
To pledge their lives in defense of our ways,
To show that freedom always outlives fear,
And sacrifice is hallowed all our days.
If Liberty means anything to me,
I will remember those who kept me free.

“I will remember what my freedom cost,

Yes, never lost because they are with us always in freedom’s ring.

ravens, I love how you helped the reader to empathize with a someone they thought they did not know. They are indeed more than a name carved in stone, and memorial day is a day to reflect on that which is so ashamedly and easily forgotten in the chaos of every day life.

Thank you to you both for sharing these words. ~el

    Thanks for Reading

  14. I was listening to NPR this morning. An old Frenchman was telling a story about the sacrifices our soldiers made during WWII. He explained how much he and other Frenchmen will never be able to show the incredible appreciation they have for American boys, who, during that war, gave them freedom from a horrible regime.

He went on to say something that meant a lot to me and it should be known by all. Those who died and are buried there will never come home to American soil. They have relatives who may never have the opportunity to go to France and visit their graves, but if they do, this gentleman and many others have done something that really touched my heart. When the war ended, they “adopted” a fallen soldier. They learned as much as they could about who lies there. They manicure the grave. They bring flowers and pray. They love that soldier as one of their own and they will always remember. They will make sure their children and grandchildren never forget The Greatest Generation.

  15. @Rayvenscawl: The artifacts at the wall are what really got to me during my visit to the Mall yesterday—that and Vietnam Vets visiting to honor their buddies.

@Marinade: I thought that NPR piece was really good. Healthy reminder that people are buried overseas, and healthy reminder that we have plenty of friends overseas too.

  16. That someone took pride in their first steps and words. – Even Hitler’s mother held him to her breast.

I am so young in knowledge…so old in dying.
