“Removing Race From the Equation “

United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination,

the term “racial discrimination” shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic,social, cultural or any other field of public life. ‘^[1]

Racism is undoubtedly considered by some to be the most taboo of subjects, By others it is the focal that defines and explains both successes and failures.Regardless it is an ADHERENCE to PRECEPT which plagues society, lending itself to the creation of, and as a CULTURAL PHENOMENON MANIFEST in western society by a SUDO-TRIBALISM promoting NEO-THEOLOGIES, furthering not only SOCIETAL but SELF DISCRIMINATION and EXPLOITATION…

The previous post  Change in America!(Can we?) though having received few comments, has supplied me with a seemingly never ending chain of emails, the majority of which has garnered me a great deal of support from both sides of the divide, While many others offered such enlightening comments, the basis of which was to suggest my ignorance in the matter of race, (obviously they have not read many of my other post) Yet it has been, the recent nomination of Democratic 2008 Presidential hopeful Barack Obama that has forced RACISM in the U.S. to the forefront of both RHETORIC and DEBATE. Interestingly it was during the period that Mr. Obama sought the nomination of his chosen party that it became necessary for him to address the most disconcerting of charges ,Is he “BLACK ENOUGH?” Can he who is of DIRECT descent accurately represent the descendant AFRO-AMERICAN population? But what of QUALIFICATION and MERIT? Race once removed from the equation only leaves qualification…

The above example serves serves as a microcosm of our attitudes and ignorance, but also our progression….

Furthermore the above example “will” be seen by some as indicative of a WHITE perspective, that by not being AFRO-AMERICAN that this OPINION is somehow muted or invalidated, or even RACIST in it’s own right…. That I am OBLIVIOUS to the COVERTNESS of racism. Yet RACE and RACISM has been the single constant in my own life.

As American law has left me the orphan bastard of a Rom Chieftain, I am no stranger to the ignorance and bigotries that can be and are directed towards a “Minority” people, It is the ability to recognize not only the differences in others ( whether racial, religious, or simply economical) but that when these differences are used for the basis a prejudice and discrimination , they form the common bond for minorities the world over.~Overwhelmed

I am not so naive to suggest that race or ethnicity has no place in society, for it’s necessity is ROOTED in SOCIETAL EVOLUTION , as such RACISM is a DISEASE the ROOT of which is SOCIAL ignorance… RACE once removed from any equation, serves only to diminish PRIVILEGE and ENTITLEMENT, Thus leveling EXPECTATION in economics, theology, education and opportunity……

For those who think the color of ones skin is more than simply that, I assure you we are all same under it…
