And I agree to a point.. that internal or national perceptions of certain Leaders and their actions often differ in comparison to that of the outside worlds view.( Such is the case in Iraq, concerning Saddam)

		<description>One big thing that happened between 1989 and now was that the Soviet Union collapsed and broke apart. There is an important segment of the Russian population that views that not as liberation from tyranny but defeat, the culmination of the events of 1989, and Putin appears to be feeding on such sentiments.
