Did we Forget?
“Time heals all wounds”
If it can, then how much~ time: I wonder?
Or does time simply deaden the memories of pain?
What I do know is it leaves scars, some so faint… that had we not known of their placements, we surly would have forgotten their existence, with still many more recognizable by the perceptions of tendernesses and swellings, marked only in our memories. Or those carved so deep and ugly, like gouges in the earths clay, whose once jagged edges have eroded and dulled with time.
With everything going on in the world today, it seems that time has ,Selectively, attempted just that, to eroded the jagged edges of the past. It would behoove us all to remember the consequential scars of unfettered action.

Globally around 30,000 nuclear weapons are held by various countries.
On average, each of them has a destructive power thirty times that of the Hiroshima bomb.~GreenPeace
Whether time heals or simply erodes,
“The reasons for peace can be found in ,humanities, wounds. But only if we remember the lessons found in ,humanities, scars.”~ Kem Shahol
“One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr“Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.”
– John F. Kennedy“Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind brought about by a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely the absence of war. It is also a state of mind. Lasting peace can come only to peaceful people.”
– Jawaharial Nehru, former Prime Minister of India“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”
– Mother Teresa

Well, whatever time is doing with wounds, she’s causing a bit of synchronicity in the blogosphere!
I, too, posted about nuclear arms today and I, too, accompanied it with a map (different than the one you selected).

Well, Japan certainly remembered these bombs. Unfortunately, it has used them as an excuse to cultivate a sense of victimhood in official teachings on the war, instead of also coming to terms with the more unsavory bits of its past and possible American justifications for using these bombs.
By the same token, attempts to include critical perspectives for the fiftieth anniversary in the Museum of American HIstory in Washington, DC failed, because some groups are unwilling to subject memory to historical analysis.
My linking of these two separate phenomena is not intended to create any kind of moral equivalency. I understand why the U.S. used these bombs. It was probably the right decision. But I’m also in favor of public education and debate on such issues.

My aim in this post is not to criticize, or justify but only to provide thought,as to how little the world has progressed since.
More than one reason helps to explain why history tends to repeat. Different generations of human beings have experienced war, crisis and destruction. Yet necessary lessons have not been learned or ego would not be permitted to take control again.
Personally, I think that the moment of peril is when a leader decides to do something for the ‘greater good’ an even ‘greater bad’ often follows.
